LAS VEGAS (AP) — A one-time boxer who’s been jailed for more than a year is due to learn how much prison time he’ll serve for setting fire to a pet shop where 27 puppies and dogs were rescued from cages 13 months ago.
Defense attorney Roger Bailey says he’ll seek leniency and a 2-to-5 year sentence for 28-year-old Kirk Bills at sentencing Monday in Clark County District Court.
Bailey says state probation officials are recommending a 4-to-10 year prison term.
Bills pleaded guilty in October to felony arson and attempted animal cruelty charges in the January 2014 fire at the Prince and Princess pet shop in southwest Las Vegas.
Former shop owner Gloria Lee was sentenced last week to 5 to 14 years in prison for arson, insurance fraud and attempted animal cruelty.
