(Reno, NV) — A Reno man is charged with animal cruelty for allegedly throwing a puppy off a third-floor balcony.
Police say 57-year-old John Wayne Ponsock was visiting someone at the apartment Thursday night when he tossed the 4-month-old puppy to the ground below.
The animal was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital but had to be put down because of extensive injuries.
Police were called on the report of a disturbance and say the owner of the dog struck Ponsock in the parking lot.
Police say Ponsock left the apartment complex but was later found walking along U.S. 395 between Parr and McCarran boulevards. Officers say he was grossly intoxicated.
He was booked on charged of cruelty to animals and being an intoxicated pedestrian in a roadway.
